The Box Office
The Box Office is an independent feminist aviation magazine built to make room for the stories our industry has too often ignored, sanitized, whispered about, or told women to keep to themselves.
We publish essays, interviews, history, satire, artwork, and firsthand accounts from across aviation. Some of it will make you laugh. Some of it may piss you off. Some of it should have been said a long time ago.

MANIFESTO // SAY IT OUT LOUD
BECAUSE aviation has spent generations treating women as exceptions, accommodations, firsts, outsiders, and problems to solve.
BECAUSE the story told in private is often different from the official version.
BECAUSE the detail someone leaves out can be the whole fucking point.
BECAUSE patterns do not disappear when someone tells us we’re imagining them.
BECAUSE “that’s just how aviation is” has excused enough bullshit.
BECAUSE women’s experiences are not interchangeable: RACE, CULTURE, NATIONALITY, CLASS, SEXUALITY, IDENTITY, ACCESS, and POWER matter.
BECAUSE women are reliable narrators of their own lives.
BECAUSE being able to laugh about it doesn’t mean it was okay.
BECAUSE we will not soften misogyny to make it easier to discuss.
BECAUSE disagreement does not frighten us, and institutional comfort is not our editorial standard.
BECAUSE telling the truth about aviation doesn’t mean we love flying any less.
BECAUSE the women coming after us deserve more than the sanitized version.
BECAUSE if we don’t write these stories down, someone else gets to decide what the record says.
We are not here to be agreeable.
